We’re wrapping things up on the MYStuff 1.4 release, and it will be available tomorrow. This is probably the biggest update since the original release last year, so we’re pretty excited about it. Much of the work was behind-the-scenes stuff to pave the way for a bunch of new exciting features, but there are a few things you’ll notice.

The biggest news is long-awaited support for moving your MYStuff data to your Dropbox or iDisk account, file server, USB flash drive, or any other location. Simply open the Preferences, click “Copy & Move”, and select your new location.

MYStuff also has a new “All Records” category that allows you to easily see everything in your database at once.

There were a bunch of little enhancements throughout, but the biggest “little” enhancement is that MYStuff’s interface now works much better on MacBooks and other machines with smaller screen resolution (1280 x 800).

Overall, we think you’ll be pleased with the update, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback.

We’re happy to announce that MYStuff 1.4 is in beta and will be released shortly. This update will bring the much-requested feature of built-in changing the location of the MYStuff data repository, making it easy to move your data to a file server or an off-site online data storage location such as Dropbox or your iDisk.

While we finish work on the update, we’re announcing our Independence Day Sale: just enter the promotion code LIBERTY at checkout, and we’ll knock $11.24 of the price of MYStuff, bringing it to the patriotic price of just $17.76 until midnight July 9th, EST.

We’re pretty excited about this release. In addition to the mandatory bugfixes, we’ve added two really nice features:

CSV Import: Import data from MYStuff exports, as well as Delicious Library, Home Inventory, Know Your Stuff, Paperless, and WarrantyHero. As you can see from our feature comparison chart, MYStuff is the best application at what it does. If you have a lot of data in one of these other programs, now you’re no longer stuck there. (And now the disclaimer: We’ve made every effort to import as much data from these other programs as possible, but due to how the other programs save and export data, some data won’t transfer properly or at all.)

FileFinder Search Tab: I did this feature for me, and hopefully everyone else will like it too. I love to have manuals for everything I own, and now there are lots of manuals making their way online as PDF files. With this feature, it grabs the Manufacturer and Model info you have entered for the Record, formats a Google search query, and opens it in your default browser. From here you can easily add what you find to your Record. Check out the screencasts to see it in action.

Download MYStuff 1.3

Bugs. No application is without them. No developer ever stops having to fix them.

Over the past week, I’ve had two bugs bzzzzzzzzzzz around my head like gnats on a warm sumer evening. Both of them were irritating little buggers. Both of them were around since MYStuff 1.0. Both of them are now squashed. (Thank goodness!)

In addition to the inquiries asking if we’re going to make an iPhone version of MYStuff, we’ve already received comments from some users inquiring if we’re going to make an iPad version of MYStuff. We feel that MYStuff is a natural fit for both the iPad and iPhone. We believe that each platform deserves a version of MYStuff that is suited best for that platform and the needs of that platform’s users. Rather than rapidly port and deploy a hacked-together version of MYStuff for the iPhone and iPad with a lousy user experience, we’re concentrating on developing the best possible MYStuff experience for those platforms.

It may take a little longer, but the platforms and our users deserve it.

Dropped a very minor update today, MYStuff 1.2.3. There was an odd bug where once a user hit the demo limit, MYStuff would stop displaying Files that a user had added to a Record. If you deleted 1 Record to bring you back to 9 Records, or if you purchased, everything would work fine. Turned out to be 1 errant line of code that has been around since version 1.0.

Zoinks!

The 1.2.3 update fixed this bug.

We have some other stuff in the wings for MYStuff, some very cool features that we’re pretty excited about. We also have French localization on the way very soon. If you’re a fluent English speaker and a native speaker of a different language, we’ll give you a free copy of MYStuff in exchange for your help in translating. Just post a response here and we’ll contact you off-list.

For people who read this blog, it’s actually 14, since I’m posting this on Saturday but the press release is scheduled to drop on Monday morning.

In the spirit of Christmas, we’re knocking $12 off the price of MYStuff if you enter the discount code “12DAYSOFCHRISTMAS” at checkout. This promo will run through and including Christmas Day.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m one of those people who spend a lot of time between Christmas and New Year’s catching up on stuff I’ve been meaning to do all year. This normally involves cleaning out drawers and closets, throwing away old junk to make room for the new junk, putting together a bag of clothes to give to local charities and thrift stores, et cetera. This is also a great time to sit down and clean out “that box” or “that drawer” which collects all the important stuff (receipts, product manuals, warranty paperwork) throughout the course of a year, and put it all into MYStuff.

As the developer, I probably have a head start on everyone else, but even I still have a folder full of stuff that needs scanned.

Alrighty folks, MYStuff 1.2.2 is now available for download and auto-update.

We were hoping to get this out sooner, but testing revealed some compatibility issues with Snow Leopard that needed to be fixed first.

There are no new features, per se, but the performance with lots of records is much, much better than in previous versions, especially if you are using photos with each Record. We threw in some little bugfixes, too… most users won’t even notice them since most users never noticed the bugs in the first place, but we noticed them, and it caused us many sleepless nights because it just wasn’t right.

We have a lot of new and exciting features lined up for future versions, but we wanted to get the little annoyances out of the way before forging ahead with new stuff.

Speaking of new stuff… we’re putting the finishing touches on the spec for our next app which will do some really cool stuff. We’ll be starting on it soon. Stay tuned.

In the spirit of Slashdotters everywhere, I claim this post as the first one.

Now that that’s out of the way, on with the show.

We’re wrapping up MYStuff 1.2.2 and should be releasing it tomorrow. Nothing drastically new with this release, just some speed improvements. We were unhappy with the application’s responsiveness when you had a bunch of large (over 1 megapixel) images as Record images. We were just generating the thumbnails for the Image Browser view all on the fly, but this was taking forever when you had a dozen or so files that were 20MB or more each.

So we implemented some caching and kept the file sizes tiny, and we closed a few little bugs that seemingly mattered only to us, and in our internal builds we’re pretty pleased with the speed improvements. (Hopefully you will be too.)
